Hello! I am a licensed independent clinical social worker and therapist providing online individual therapy for adolescents and adults living in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Over the past decade, I have had experiences in residential, school, and community-based outpatient settings meeting with children, adolescents, adults and families. My educational background involves brain and cognitive sciences and clinical social work studies with a focus on trauma, earning a Master of Social Work from Boston College in 2017. I received my LICSW in 2019 and started this independent practice a year later. I am a licensed psychotherapist in both MA and NH.
Life is full of ups and downs, ebbs and flows, changes and possibilities. As a lover of nature, I am inspired by the seasonal rhythms and cycles that share lessons for navigating change and adversities. I am further inspired by the possibilities that can emerge from the ways we make meaning of those changes and adversities through the stories we tell. No one's story has been written in full. There is not one story that can be told about you, your relationships and your life. When problems are present, we may feel consumed and overwhelmed by them, yet I believe we have many knowledges, skills, and experiences that can help us to navigate and respond to the life challenges and problems we may face. Problems do not have to define us. My hope is that therapy can help you experience more choice and possibility in your life, help you to know yourself as separate from the problems, and reconnect you with the stories about yourself and your life that bring you a greater sense of hope, strength, and ability to respond to the challenges.
I often meet with high schoolers, college students, young adults and adults working in a helping profession. I have experience with a wide range of concerns such as depression and low moods, anxiety and worries, overwhelm and burnout, low self-esteem, difficult emotions, stress and conflict, problems in relationships of all kinds, navigating friendships and peer-related issues, challenges with work or school, adjusting to life changes and transitions, experiencing grief and loss, and the impact of adverse and traumatic experiences. Each person experiences and makes meaning of these concerns in different ways. I am committed to getting to know you as a person, what you care about, and your particular ways of making meaning of your experiences, rather than assuming I know something about you based on aspects of your identity or the problems you share about. We can work together to clarify your goals and intentions for therapy as they evolve, to help guide our conversations. I don't believe therapy must be indefinite, as I hope to support you with experiencing more influence over the problems in your life so that you may live your preferred life more fully. I hope to create an experience together that is helpful and meaningful to you in some way.
My style is warm, thoughtful, gentle and reflective. I value humor, compassion, curiosity and being an active participant. I take notes, intently listen, ask questions that I don't know the answers to, and share reflections and ideas when relevant. My hope is for you to feel seen, heard, and cared about - to know your thoughts and feelings matter.
An important part of my work is the belief that people are not problems, problems are problems, and that all people matter equally and deserve to be related to with dignity and respect. My intent is to partner with you on your journey and work together to learn what may be helpful for you, respecting you as the expert of your own life. Our conversations are driven by what you feel is most important or relevant to focus on, rather than me deciding that for you. I believe it is important to attend to the mind-body-spirit relationship as well, and that there are many avenues for improving one's quality of life, and many ways of knowing and being in the world. I welcome you sharing your personal, cultural, religious, and spiritual knowings, beliefs, and practices that are important to you as well.
For those interested to know more, my therapeutic approach and theoretical orientation is informed by Narrative Therapy. I received my foundational training and certification from the Narrative Therapy Initiative, which has provided professional connections for ongoing supervision and consultation for my work as well. Much of my continuing education has been related to learning more about the mind-body relationship, the neurobiology of trauma, and somatic therapies.
